Description
Ataraxis evolved out of an earlier band, The Apollo 13 and was active between 2001 and 2005. Fronted by Robert Pilkington (vocals, guitar), and Andrew Davis (guitar) the band went through a number of line-up changes, leading to distinct phases of the group. The original line-up included Bryan Cole on electric guitar, Greg Frechette on bass and Brian Welesko on drums. Cole left the group in early 2002. As a four piece the band continued until late 2003 when Greg left Rhode Island to attend school in Florida. Jim Bealieu replaced Greg on bass in the fall of 2003.
In early 2004 Davis left the group to pursue his new project, Short Wave. During this time Jim moved to lead guitar and Erin LaNinfa was brought in on bass guitar.
In the fall of 2004 Brian Welesko left Rhode Island to attend school in Chicago, at which point Jim also decided to leave the group. Davis rejoined on lead guitar and Brian Decoteaux joined on drums.
Brian Decoteaux left the group in the spring of 2005 and Neil Hodge, who had played drums in the original Apollo 13 line-up in 2001, stepped in to play drums for the summer of 2005.
At the end o the summer of 2005 Rob transferred to Emmerson College, and Neil returned to school in Washington DC, and the band was officially ended, playing their last show at Cafe Zog in Providence.
As a band Ataraxis self-released an EP, "Pop Injury" in 2002 and a full length album in 2003, "Herd Behavior." Multiple songs were recorded after Herd Behavior, some were released on compilation CD-R's released by Davis and Cole's upstart record label Doctor Corporate. Although numerous attempts to craft a second album were made, none were ever completed. The final recordings never even received a vocal overdub by Pilkington.
