Burned Response EP
Burned Response EP (2005)
With Taiyo officially on board we got straight to work recording. Burned Response was recorded between April and May 2005 in my home studio using a TEAC 1/4" four track recorder and a Fostex E-8 1/4" eight track recorder.
The title was meant to reflect a kind of 'burned out' response to the lunacy of American politics at the time. (We had no idea what was coming).
I took the photos with a 35 mm camera at band rehearsal, and the rest of a TV with Fox News on it. We cut up the photos and drew on them with paint marker to create the art.
Burned Response was released on CD-R in early June. After we finished the EP I Immediatley booked time at Oxbow Studio to start recording a 'full length' record.
Unfortunately the 8-track tapes were re-used years later during the Green Bean sessions, and the digital backups have since been lost. However, in 2024 I re-discovered a reel that had the 8-track master for 'Bore' intact from which I created a remix.
Bore (Burned Response EP version) [2025 remix]
Bore was a song I wrote in early 2005 about a strange dream I'd had in which I was playing board games with a two year old genius while scientists observed from behind a two-way mirror. The chorus had nothing to do with the dream, but rather was a rumination on how I hated watching people get drunk (I dind't drink at the time), and that I'd rather be dreaming. It was our acoustic pop song that balanced out some of the more cacophonic numbers and remains a personal favorite of mine.
In late 2024 I was able to transfer the original 8-track recording from quarter inch tape and attempt a remix. This remix was created in winter 2025.
Unfortunately the original recordings for the other songs on the EP have since been lost.
