In Limbo (The Short Wave EP)

Neil and Greg left Rhode Island to go back to school at their respective universities in Virginia and Florida, thus ending Short Wave phase one.

I returned to the University of Rhode Island, and also, to Ataraxis.

Ataraxis was once again experiencing a line-up shift. Jim and Brian were out and I was back on lead guitar and learning a whole new batch of Rob's songs. Rob was now willing to let me sing my own songs, which were No Star, Angel and Vaccination. Brian Decoteaux, who had previously played drums on my early Short Wave demos, was now the full-time drummer in Ataraxis. There was also a new bass player, Erin LaNinfa, who knew Brian and Rob, but this was the first time I'd met her.

It was the autumn of 2004 and I was living on campus at URI. Like the previous year, I would drive home on weekends to my parents house to use the home-studio.

When Ataraxis wasn't playing I continued to work on my side project in the studio. The first order of business was to mix the recordings I'd made with Neil and Greg over the summer. I assembled an EP called, 'the Short Wave EP,' which included two songs from the 2003 Oxbow session, and released it, without a band, on Halloween 2004.

Quiet (Smashing Pumpkins cover) [2021 remix]

Recorded in late August 2004, this cover of the Smashing Pumpkins was our send off and final 'triump' of playing as a band for the summer. Though we recorded it more-or-less for fun, it was included on some (but not all) the self-released CD-R copies of the Short Wave EP in 2004 and 2005.

This version was remixed in ProTools in 2021 using the original multitrack recording.

No Star; Angel (2004/2005 demo)

My memory is a bit hazy on when, exactly, this was recorded. I believe it was during winter break 2004-2005, or spring break 2005. Neil Hodge is playing drums, I am playing guitar and bass. This song never could find a home - we played it with Ataraxis and Short Wave, both bands recorded it, neither ever released it.
